Solo artist Awwal is situated in the world of the expressive and experimental music genre of progressive metal.

For his solo project I designed a logo that artfully fuses the double consonants of the name "Awwal" into a single entity. This way an interesting word mark could be created, which picks up elements of other metal subgenres (like Awwal's music itself), but clearly stands for itself in its clarity and thus clearly commits itself to progressive metal.

The artist received an album cover for the first release of his solo project. The imaginative graphics that were created from a watercolor painting i made by myself follow his dreamy music and his expressive kind of creation process.

Photographically, the artist's performance was complemented by lowkey portrait shots to appropriately showcase the face behind the music.

The half-screen lighting symbolizes the somberness that Awwal embodies in his music and at the same time the path to light that the music itself represents for him as a balm for the soul.

Background Animation for Spotify

The album artwork is also found in the moving image for a background animation that plays when the artist's tracks are called up via the Spotify platform.

The handpainted aquarelle became a so-called cinemagraph by shifting layers, which creates the impression of movement in the background.
